Family and Consumer Sciences

Educational programs focus on strengthening individuals, families and communities by addressing critical issues and needs, such as teaching parenting skills, improving nutrition and health, managing family finances, addressing child care needs, and others.

Tennessee Shapes Up

Tennessee Shapes Up is a statewide community education program developed by the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service. This program is designed to teach people how to adopt and maintain healthy eating and physical activity habits that lead to healthy weight.
The Tennessee Shapes Up program targets those behaviors believed to be the primary reason for excess weight gain for most people. The important elements of the program include healthy eating practices, physical activity and helping people overcome the emotional and environmental influences on eating that lead to excess calories.
